Innovation
The University Institute of Biomedical and Healthcare Research (iUIBS), of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been created in order to bring together research scientists, research programmes, postgraduate teaching personnel, financial resources and sufficient instrumental means to seek the advance of knowledge, development and innovation in Biomedicine and Biotechnology, by means of excellence in scientific research.
The multidisciplinary character of the iUIBS has meant that these and the other areas represented in our centre can benefit from the confluence of researchers with solid training in very diverse and complementary fields: epidemiology, clinical research, experimental studies, both in vitro and in vivo, both in animals and in humans, clinical trials promoted by research scientists, molecular biology, genetics, chemistry, toxicology, statistics/mathematics, surgery, technology, etc.
Within this framework, the main lines of R+D+i activity are very diverse and occupy general fields such as:
- Public Health and Healthy Habits
- Physical Activity and Sports Activity
- Clinical Healthcare Research
- Biomedical Technology
- Genetics
- Toxicology
- Oncology
- Neuroscience
To develop these lines of activity there are laboratories and specialised instruments, managed and used by expert personnel, to carry out different experiences:
- Cellular and tissue cultures
- Molecular biology: genomics, gene expression, proteomics
- Microscopy: fluorescence, confocal
- Flow cytometry
- Chromotography
- Cryopreservation of biological samples: -20ºC, -80º, Nitrogen
- Liquid (dry ice: periodical service)
- Centrifuges and ultracentrifuges
- Gene library
- Cellular line service (catalogue)
