Diabetes and Applied Endocrinology

Our group arose from the mission to improve quality of life for persons with diabetes and other endocrine diseases in our environment.

We are working towards a better understanding of why diabetes and its complications are produced. We evaluate different pharmacological, educational and technological interventions, and evaluate also quality of life, implementing strategies to improve it. We identify new treatments on the basis of local natural products. We work to characterise family hypercholesterolemia on our island. We bridge the boundaries between human and veterinarian endocrinology, by means of comparative endocrinology, transferring knowledge between the two.

Our team is multi-disciplinary, clinical-experimental, and it collaborates with other local, national and international groups, as well as with associations of patients and with businesses.
