Sertox
The Toxicology Service (SERTOX) was created at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to provide the veterinary, medical and administrative community and the general public with a comprehensive service of advice, analysis, diagnosis and toxicological research.
For the veterinary community, SERTOX offers clinical and forensic diagnosis of intoxication and poisoning, chemical-toxicological analysis of biological samples, study of poisons and poisoned baits, advice on clinical toxicology, toxicological-forensic investigation in cases of poisoning, toxicological information service by telephone or e-mail, and veterinary legal advice. For the medical community, SERTOX provides toxicological analysis and advice to all professionals in need. In addition, SERTOX is an essential tool in the fight against poison and the prosecution of poisoning crimes. Since 2009, we have been working on the unequivocal identification of toxicants involved in wildlife poisoning cases, and have developed a combination of analytical methods that follow the protocols of the “Technical guide for action in cases of poisoning in recovery centers and toxicological laboratories”.
Our methods were validated according to the most rigorous guidelines available and published in prestigious international scientific journals. We also offer a wide range of analytical determinations to companies in the food sector and to the public administration to comply with the demanding European legislation on food safety.
